Fire Ban has been lifted as of 5/5/2026 HOWEVER: There is still NO WATER near Sassafras Hill and Grindstone Gap Campsites and thus NO CAMPFIRES at those sites. Careful use of fuel stoves only at those two sites (NO CHARCOAL now or anytime at any site)
FDR State Park and the Pine Mountain Trail are open all year with a few exceptions.

The Georgia State Parks daily PARK PASS parking fee as of 1/1/2026 went up to $10. The old green SELF PAY boxes have been replaced with QR code SELF PAY signs. Annual Passes and daily paper danglers still available for purchase inside the park office/visitors center. Using the QR code at trailheads you will be required to input your vehicle tag number when paying. Vehicles parked anywhere in the park will be checked with a "tag reader" by rangers if they don't see an annual pass or paper dangler pass. So, if you have a in-date Georgia annual pass dangler, they must still be displayed on rear view mirror. No payment/pass bought via QR code or no annual pass/dangler paper pass visible will result in parking citation via US mail. NOTE: The QR code self pay signs are located at most Pine Mountain Trail trailhead parking areas (not at Buzzards Roost nor Overlook Parking Area) .
Note: Only ONE permit will be issued for each of the 21 backcountry campsites for an individual/group (thus, you will not have to share a site).
