January 6-7 & 8 2025...FDR State Park will be CLOSED for all regular activities for a semi- annual GA DNR controlled management deer hunt.
No cabin or RV campground use and NO USE OF ANY HIKING TRAIL SECTION. Backpackers will not be allowed to use any sites Sunday the 5th nor the 6th-7th & 8th. . . Trailheads will be BLOCKED with chains and signs by early on the 6th. SIGNS WILL NOTE TRAILS CLOSED: HUNTERS ARMED IN WOODS. On the 7th & 8th Dowdell's Knob Road gate will be closed and ALL roadside pull off parking areas/trailhead parking areas are NOT to be used. Entrance to WJSP TV Tower parking area will be blocked off 6-7th & 8th....... WARNING: Hikers/runners who park and are found on the trails can be issued citations, The park will be patrolled by several DNR Enforcement Officers in black trucks. Hunters with state park permits for this hunt will be allowed to "scout" not armed on the 6th. Park will reopen on Thursday January 9th. So be safe and comply with this closure. FDR State Park and the Pine Mountain Trail are open all year with a few exceptions.
The FDR State Park office is open 8AM to 5PM 7 days a week
