2007 Large Camp Cleanup/Workday

  April 14, 2007

Carl Carlson, Danny Rock & Mark Hughes had been most concerned that rain may mess up our workday this year at the Large Group Camp, but it was a great day weather-wise. The rain held off till later in the afternoon.

Danny and Mark had all the supplies and plan ready when I arrived about 8:30 a.m.   Carl was ready with the dump truck to haul away limbs and such.

We really didn’t know how many volunteers we would have, but as has been the case for the last few years we had enough.  Folks, 39 came from all over to help on Saturday

Jo Myers, Bill Vang, Sam Burke, Gene & Christy Wells, Jonathan and I along with Bill & Streit Cunningham from Columbus, Danny Rock and Mark Hughes (LaGrange), Carl from just down the road,  Jim Halling (Pine Mountain),  Sherry Pierce (Cataula),  Ronnie & Matthew Heard with Josh Devore from up near Sharpsburn,  Doug Clemons brought Joshua Katona, Greg Newton, Ryan Hammons, Nickolas Oxford and Landa Clemens from McDonnough,  Judith Ashley, Harry Pruitt, Larry & Deena Durham from Phenix City,  Tommy & Alice, Rachelle & Sadie Hataway from Opelika , Peggy Roberts (Newnan), Gus Callaway & Molly along with Matt & Mary Beth (Hogansville) and Gary Hughes (Atlanta/Columbus.)

As before I ordered the pizza, cinna sticks and dessert pizza to serve along with soft drinks, water and fruit for lunch for all.

So how long did it take to clean up the whole place? Just about 2.5 hours which means about 11: 30 most folks were relaxing in and around the dining hall waiting on the pizza at noon .

We had a great day.  Thanks to all those mentioned above for helping out and getting so much work done so quickly.  Do you realize (not counting travel time) that we gave FDR State Park about 135 man hours of work in one morning?

As an added note: Danny Rock came to the workday with a wonderful dog named Rusty.

He told he wasn’t sure he could keep him. He ended up giving Rusty to Sadie and Rachelle Hataway who love him dearly already.
