Pine Mountain Trail Maintenance

35 Volunteers Help Make the February 6th Work Day a Huge Success!

PMTA Work Day - 2/6/2010

We have a count of 35 volunteers who showed up at the park office parking lot around 10 am. We had some new faces come help and the rest were PMTA members. Oldest volunteer we think was 75 and youngest was 10.

We left some vehicles at the office and caravanned down to road Mile 5 shortly after 10. Near there we split in two groups. Carl took one group toward Big Knot and Jim took one toward Jenkins Springs Campsite. Around noon we were all walking back to the woods road for lunch having nearly completed all our intended work. We raked and blew with gas blowers a really wide swath firebreak around each camp. Carl, Bill and Sam had the route flagged two weeks ago. After lunch, Jim & Mark cut up a few logs on the break at Jenkins Springs, while Malon blew off the break again there.

Lots of help and lots of pizza! Thanks to everyone including FDR's Clint Rouse for helping Jo Myers
get our lunch to us! Speaking of Jo Myers, special thanks to her for her wonderful mini-muffins.
Jo took our "pizza request orders" and went to Pine Mountain for the pizzas and got up with Clint
to drive her in the 4x4 truck down the woods road. We had a great time eating pizza, muffins & fruit for lunch. During lunch John Cecil read a great inspirational piece to us. Grand reminder of who made those woods we were in.

Special thanks also to Tim Chitwood of the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer and the Ledger's Northland Neighbors for helping get the word out about the workday.

Mission accomplished for sure!

August 22nd Work Day, Broken Tree Campsite

PMTA August 2009 Workday- Broken Tree Campsite 007

Carl had 6 people show up at Rocky Point Parking lot and took care of some trail leveling as well as a couple of blow downs. I met up with him and two other guys over near Broken Tree Campsite. Several trees had blown down in the area. One sugar gum was across the trail at the steps leading down into the campsite. The other was the top end of a large oak that fell across the trail on up the trail about 50 feet. All were easy to cut and remove.
